My rating system:
I usually have an approximate idea of the book's rating three-quarters through but I try to solidify the numbers at the end based on five aspects:1) The premise and/or the book as a whole
2) The story/ book arc
3) The characters and their growth
4) The writing
5) The world-building/ description of the system
They are rated out of a star each and totaled; I might round up/down at the end a little if necessary, almost always up. I use this method to try and rate books individually for its genre, without comparing it to other relevant books / authors/ genres.
